Feds Charge Inmate After White Powder Mailing
Marc Harold Ramsey Put His Name On Threatening Letter
Federal prosecutors have filed charges against a jail inmate alleging he sent a threatening letter and white powder to a Colorado campaign office for Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
According to an affidavit, the letter included the statement “Senator McCain, If you are reading this then you are already DEAD! Unless of course you can’t or don’t breathe.”
The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office says Marc Harold Ramsey, an inmate in the Arapahoe County Jail, mailed the letter. He’s been in jail since 2007 on felony charges of menacing, harassment and assault.
He now faces a charge of knowingly mailing a threat and faces at least five years in prison if convicted.
Authorities said Ramsey wrote both his name and “Arapahoe County Jail” on the letter.
A total of 17 staffers went through decontamination tents as a precautionary measure after the letter and white powder were found.
The powder was not dangerous.
