Former Marine to Be Tried in Civilian Court
08-18-08 at 7:16AM
The trial for a former Marine accused of manslaughter in the deaths of four unarmed detainees in Iraq is scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Jose Luis Nazario, Jr., of Riverside, insists he did nothing wrong and says his faith in the system is “shaken.”
He is being tried in a civilian court because he has retired from the Marine Corps.
That is why his lawyer said he could not get a fair trial.
Nazario is the first former service member charged under a law that allows prosecution of former GIs for alleged crimes committed outside the United States.
