  1. There are a lot of good reasons to join the military: patriotism, service to community, college opportunity, job training, develop maturity and leadership.

    Glorifying war and combat is not a good reason to join the military. Virtual reality creates a false sense of the experience; when they feel real bullets coming back at them; when they see friends loose a leg or an arm to an IED; when their senses are on overload for months at a time; when they feel the 100 degree heat in kevlar as they hear voices that could be either talking about the Olympics or which person they are going to shoot first: then the kids will really understand what the Army is asking them to do.

    No one is saying that a recruiter should down sell the importance or benefits of military service (I did 20 years), but they shouldn’t make it sound like a fun video game.
